5 Election Day lessons for the GOP – The Week

The editorial staff at the Week’s examination of the GOP’s poor showing in the 2012 elections is rather superficial because the Republicans don’t need a face lift, they need a heart transplant. Their bone-deep misogyny and pandering to the radical religious right needs to to be excised and exorcised if they want to have any hope of appealing to anyone other than the lunatic fundamentalist fringe. Their “woman problem” (more accurately woman-hating problem) is their worst failing and should have been first on this writer’s list.

Romney signed his own political death warrant when he named blatant misogynist Paul Ryan as his running mate and continued to support Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock and didn’t denounce them and Joe Walsh for the  idiots they are when they made their ill-informed and outrageous remarks about rape, rape-induced pregnancy, and abortion.

The article in Reuters outlines the real reason Obama and so many other pro-choice Democrats, especially women, won:  women voters refusal to accept the war on women unleashed by the Tea Party Republicans.  The defeat of Romney/Ryan, Todd Akin, Richard Mourdock, Joe Walsh, and the rabid Allen West and the election of pro-choice women like Elizabeth Warren, Tammy Baldwin, Heidi Heitkamp, Kirsten Gillibrand, Maria Cantwell, Tammy Duckworth, Dianne Feinstein, Carol Shea-Porter, Mazie Hirono, and Annie Kuster to the Senate for the first-time ever total of 19 pro-choice women (!) is abundant proof of this.

5 Election Day lessons for the GOP – The Week

Women’s Equality Day March August 26, 2012

#1Women's Equality Day March 8-26-12

Women marched in Los Angeles, California  at Hollywood & Vine on August 26, 2012 to commemorate Women’s Equality Day, the day women got the vote in 1920, and to protest the recent upsurge of anti-woman legislation both in Washington and in the State legislatures.  Women are outraged that we still have no standing in the Constitution, no international Bill of Rights, remain the least represented group in government, and are still fighting the battle to retain our right to make our own personal medical decisions!  We are occupying patriarchy and taking a stand against the rampant misogyny in this country and demand passage of the Equal Rights Amendment, ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), 50/50 gender representation, and an end to the War on Women!

It’s amazing the author of this article chose to quote the sister of the rightwing Pat Buchanan, whose perceptiveness is just as  uninsightful and misogynist.  Here’s a message to the benighted Buchanans:  birth control and women’s reproductive rights are not “red herrings”, and the War on Women that these radical religious fanatics like yourselves are waging is the reason for the gender gap and women voting for ANYONE but a REPUBLICAN.  Read my lips: It is NOT the economy, stupid!  What is a tough sell is the fact that you can’t be woman-hating fascists and then put on your hypocritical smiles and expect anyone to believe that you are anything else.  We see you for who you really are and no amount of cosmetics is going to cover up the ugliness you now want to hide in order to get our votes.  Reality is coming back to kick your collective backside and it’s name is WOMAN!
